Comprehensive partnership agreement aiming to promote closed-loop recycling of plastic packaging：Initiatives in “Pla-relay Project”— Japan’s first*1circular economy for caps of food packaging —(Contributions through the manufacture of chemical recycled polypropylene)

Japan Polypropylene Corporation (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Kaname Iijima) will contribute to resource recycling through the production of polypropylene using chemical recycling materials, within the framework of the comprehensive partnership agreement (Pla-relay Project*²) aimed at recycling plastic packaging in Ibaraki Prefecture, which was concluded between six parties: Kashima City of Ibaraki Prefecture, REFINVERSE, Inc., Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation, Toyo Seikan Group Holdings, Ltd., Kewpie Corporation; and KASUMI Co., Ltd.

The aim of this project, which involves six parties, is to promote closed-loop recycling of plastic packaging within Ibaraki Prefecture. Our company accepts chemical recycling raw materials from Mitsubishi Chemical at the Kashima Plant (Kamisu City, Ibaraki Prefecture), and supplies the polypropylene produced at the same plant to the Toyo Seikan Group as chemical recycling PP products ‘NOVAORBIS™-CR’*³.

Through our NOVAORBIS™ product, we will continue to provide solutions aimed at harmonizing social development with a comfortable global environment.

*¹ The first project in Japan to use resin derived from recycled plastics converted into oil processed by supercritical water (mass balance approach)
